how to gain 260 hours of extra free time, every year

Post a Comment

Hi reader,

For the longest time, I thought the reason I took so long to make dinner was my fault…

Thoughts like these kept running through my head...

  • I'm a slow cook
  • I wasn't working fast enough
  • I didn't plan well enough
  • I picked the wrong meals to make
  • I just wasn't efficient or "good" at cooking fast
  • This is just how it is when you cook food from scratch

Do any of those sound familiar?

It turns out though, the reason dinner took so long to make wasn't my fault per se… it's because I didn't know any better.

  • I didn't know that choosing fast meals didn't necessarily mean a fast dinner.
  • I didn't know there were actual cooking skills I could learn that would make dinner faster.
  • I didn't know that in just 5 minutes of planning, I could save 5 hours every week.

As my two kids have grown, getting dinner done fast has gradually moved from a want to a need.

  • If I don't have a meal plan filled with fast recipes, I'll be late (or miss) games and practices.
  • If I don't know what I'm doing when I walk in the door at 5:30pm, we're all going to eat PBJ sandwiches (AGAIN!).
  • If I don't cook dinner quickly, my family won't eat until 8pm at night.
  • If I don't work efficiently in the kitchen, I won't ever get ahead (at least not during the school year!) and I'm tired of relying on frozen chicken nuggets and french fries just to get a few minutes of free time.

Maybe you can relate to some of these too?

After lots of research and LOTS of late dinners, I've realized that the key to getting dinner done quickly boils down to these three things:

  1. A solid meal plan
  2. Solid time-saving kitchen skills
  3. Practice

I created a meal planning membership to help you with all three of these hurdles - it's called 30 Minute Dinners.
